FortisBC Drives Cleaner Transportation
FortisBC is reducing both carbon emissions and customer costs by enabling the use of more natural gas to energize transportation.
In BC the transportation industry is responsible for the largest portion of provincial greenhouse gas ("GHG") emissions. By fueling with natural gas, GHG emissions from truck fleets can be reduced by up to 30% compared to diesel and gasoline.
As the owner and operator of the only two liquefied natural gas ("LNG") facilities in BC, FortisBC is reducing both carbon emissions and customer costs by enabling the use of more natural gas to energize transportation. The utility has become an international leader in transportation energy solutions and FortisBC's LNG is considered among the cleanest in the world.
By choosing to fuel with LNG, marine industry operators on the west coast of North America, Asia and other locations can experience cost savings of more than 50% compared to other fuels and GHG emissions from ships coming to BC can be reduced by approximately 21%. To support marine vessel owners to transition to natural gas, FortisBC offers capital incentives to help cover the incremental costs of upgrading to an LNG-powered marine vessel for operators who purchase LNG from FortisBC.
