safety-and-reliability

In 2022, we experienced our collective lowest recordable injury rate in history. However, sadly, we experienced an employee fatality which underscores why we must be relentless in our focus on safety. Our utilities will continue to work together to share and implement the best practices across our organization to make our company safer for our employees and customers.

The teamwork and fortitude of our utilities is also evident when it comes to keeping the lights on and gas flowing. It enabled us to outperform both Canadian and U.S. industry average outage durations again in 2022. After Hurricane Fiona struck three of our utilities approximately 260 crews from across our footprint joined forces in Prince Edward Island to restore power to customers of Maritime Electric.

We commend our team at FortisAlberta on receiving two awards from Electricity Canada in 2022. The utility was awarded the Reliability and Resiliency Award and the President's Award for Excellence in Employee Safety. FortisAlberta was selected as the front runner among its peers and in particular for exploring innovative ways to responsibly deliver safe, reliable electricity in a cost-effective manner.
