This initiative will see Fortis donate $500,000 to 20 non-profit organizations to provide
immediate financial support to frontline COVID-19 community response efforts in Newfoundland and
Labrador.
For many in our communities, COVID-19 has caused a significant financial burden. There is an increased need for community support in the areas of food security, mental health, client technology and basic human needs. We appreciate the immense response effort of our frontline community organizations working to meet the diverse needs of our communities during this challenging time.
On May 7, 2020, Fortis CEO, Barry Perry, announced our “Community Matters” project. With this initiative Fortis will donate $500,000 total among 20 non-profit organizations to provide immediate financial support to frontline COVID-19 response efforts in Newfoundland and Labrador. We know this gift will go a long way to help those who need it most across the province. Here is what some of our recipient organizations had to say:
“Thank you, thank you, we are truly humbled. From all those children and families who will have food, because of Fortis, what an impact you are making.”
Celina Stoyles, Kids Eat Smart Foundation
“It [is] touching to see the Fortis leaders and so many of our community partners who work in so many ways to support our community coming together this morning. Thank you for remembering and considering many students who are struggling at this time in ways we can only begin to imagine.”
Donna Hardy Cox, Memorial University
Collectively, Fortis and its energy utilities have pledged $4.5 million dollars to date to COVID-19 community support.
