Sixty women from Fortis utilities gathered for Women in Leadership 2019 to share candid and inspirational perspectives on advancing women in the energy sector.
Fortis was pleased to host its fourth Women in Executive Leadership meeting in Toronto this month. Sixty women from our utilities in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean joined us to discuss what matters to them. What makes the gathering special is the unique model which sees executive women invite emerging talent to the event. What results is a supportive and constructive setting for all.
This year’s event raised issues around inclusion and diversity, bias awareness, people leadership, opportunities for personal growth and more. And, attendees also discussed their contributions to the Fortis growth plan, managing through crisis, investor relations programming, work with First Nations communities to deliver cleaner, reliable energy, and more. Thanks to CEO Barry Perry for also addressing candid questions on everything from women in trades, to technology and the move to cleaner energy.
In a reflective and sometimes entertaining fashion, Women in Executive Leadership saw the best in people. It allowed women to rally around support for themselves, their colleagues and their utilities, leaving all those in attendance uplifted and filled with vigour to take on the next challenge at work and at home.
