Electricity Service Restored to Fortis Turks and Caicos Customers Impacted by Hurricane Ike

Fortis Turks and Caicos, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Inc. (TSX:FTS), reports that electricity service has been restored to all customers ready to receive service who were impacted by Hurricane Ike, a Category 4 hurricane which struck the Turks and Caicos Islands in early September.  Customers in the utility’s service areas of North Caicos, Middle Caicos and South Caicos were most impacted by the Category 4 hurricane.  With assistance provided by the Hurricane Response Team mobilized by Fortis, the Company completed its electricity service restoration work ahead of schedule. 

Fortis Turks and Caicos serves more than 9,000 customers, or 85 per cent of electricity consumers on the Turks and Caicos Islands.  It owns and operates an integrated electricity system providing for the generation and distribution of energy on Providenciales, North Caicos, Middle Caicos and South Caicos, with the load on Providenciales normally accounting for 80% of the total. 

The assets of Fortis Turks and Caicos are approximately $140 million, representing approximately 1% of the total assets of Fortis.
